Schutta and Ryan Asleson. This book seeks to give the experienced developer of Java web applications the knowledge necessary to add Ajax to their webapps. This is another Ajax book that goes broad rather than deep. Instead of investigating one or two frameworks, it delves into more than a half dozen, both Javascript and Java.

Quick summary: Chapters 2, 3 and 5 are the strongest in the book with useful information on tools, Javascript libraries and enhancing Struts applications with Ajax. The other chapters are not as strong and spend too much time covering old ground.

The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 is an introduction to a variety of Javascript and Java Ajax libraries and frameworks. Part 2 shows how to integrate those libraries and frameworks into existing Java web frameworks such as Struts and JSF. One place that this book differs from other Ajax books is that it doesn't have a chapter introducing the reader to the browser technologies that comprise Ajax. It doesn't dwell on the basics of Javascript, DOM and CSS. It expects you to have already read the Apress books on those topics. Instead, chapter 1 covers what I would call best practices and patterns -- autocomplete, partial page update, draggable DOM.

Chapter 2 covers the tools of the Ajax development trade -- IDE's, debuggers, HTTP monitors, logging, testing, etc. -- and provides links to where these tools can be downloaded. While those tools that are mentioned -- Venkman, Selenium, Firebug -- are all solid and useful, there is usually only one tool in each category. For Javascript editing, Aptana for Eclipse deserved a mentioned, as did JSMin and Packer for Javascript compression. While Venkman is a great tool for debugging and profiling in Firefox, the various solutions for IE are not addressed. Still, the tools are all solid choices, and the tutorial alone on how to debug Ajax with Selenium is worth the price.

Chapter 3 looks at three (four if you count Scriptaculous, which is based on Prototype) Javascript Ajax libraries -- Prototype, Taconite and Dojo. Each library is treated with some brief but useful examples along with a short example on how to use them to integrate with a servlet or JSP on the server. As always seems to be the case, Dojo seems to get short shrift. In fairness, dealing with Dojo is probably a worthy subject for an entire book of its own.

Chapter 4 looks at Direct Web Remoting (DWR) and AjaxTags. The chapter consists mostly of the basic syntax and workings of the frameworks and a few simple examples.

Part 2, as previously mentioned, builds on what the reader has learned about the preceeding Ajax frameworks and libraries and looks at integrating them into existing non-Ajax web application frameworks.

Chapter 5 is probably the most useful chapter in the book. For those maintaining Struts applications -- and there are a lot of them out there -- it provides a detailed blow by blow on how to turn a simple Struts-based form validation into an Ajax powered on using Prototype. This example doesn't address all possible uses of Ajax, but it does give you a clue on exactly where to splice the Ajax magic into the Struts infrastructure.

Chapter 6 looks at the Tacos (Ajax enabled) components of the Tapestry framework. This is the first chapter that seems to voilate the book's guiding principle: it spends the lions share of its length in explaining the workings of Tapestry rather than focusing on how to add Ajax to it.

Chapter 7 combines DWR and the Spring framework to develop a simple inventory control system. Again. lots of time is taken in explaining Spring and relatively little in showing how to add in the Ajax with DWR.

Chapter 8 shows two ways of adding Ajax to JSF, one with a roll your own approach using raw XHR and no libraries. The other using some Ajax JSF components from the Apache Tomahawk project. Again, too much time is spent explaining vanilla JSF and not enough with the Ajax enhancements. I would have like to see more written on both using and developing Ajax components, since the component is, after all, the heart of JSF.

Summary: As previously mentioned, this book goes broad rather than deep in picking out more than a half dozen frameworks and libraries. Also, the examples throughout the book are little more than snippets, not applications that would demonstrate the development of a full Ajax app. Still, there are a wealth of tool and library tutorials and Ajax conversion best practices in it to make it a valuable reference for anyone looking to enhance a legacy webapp with Ajax.

Get more information

Download Oracle PL/SQL Programming ebook

If you're doing database application development in the Oracle environment, you're going to have to know PL/SQL, the company's extended query and update language. If you want your programs to exploit the special capabilities of Oracle software, you'll need to know the language well. That's where the third edition of Oracle PL/SQL Programming comes into play. It's an absolutely comprehensive reference (as well as a rather extensive tutorial) on PL/SQL, ideally suited to answering your questions about how to perform some programming tasks and reminding you of the characteristics of functions, triggers, and other elements of the database programmer's toolkit. The new edition covers calls to Java methods from within PL/SQL programs, autonomous transactions, object type inheritance, and the new Timestamp and XMLType data types. There's also more information about server internals--the way PL/SQL programs are run--than before, better enabling readers to optimize their code for fast and safe execution.
Steven Feuerstein takes care to explain, with prose and example code, the characteristics of PL/SQL elements. In explaining number conversions, for example, he explores Oracle's different ways of formatting numbers, then details the behavior of the to_number function under different conditions (with and without a specified format model, and with National Language Support information attached). It's a helpful approach that will have readers using the index to locate places in which Feuerstein mentions language elements of interest. --David Wall

Topics covered: How to use Oracle PL/SQL in all its manifestations through Oracle9i. Fundamentals of program structure (loops, cases, exceptions, etc.) and execution get attention, as do data types, transaction management, triggers, and the object-oriented aspects of the language. There's also coverage of calls to external Java and C programs.

   Download

    Password : ebooksatkoobe

Enabling Grids with Advanced Communication Technology ebook download

A book that bridges the gap between the communities of network and Grid experts.
Grid Networks describes the convergence of advanced networking technologies and Grid technologies, with special focus on their symbiotic relationship and the resulting new opportunities. Now more than ever, choosing a .NET language boils down to personal preference (rather than a language's feature set).
However, to effectively make use of these new language features, developers must have a rock-solid grounding in object-oriented technology, assemblies, and the core .NET technologies. The purpose of Pro VB 2005 and the .NET 2.0 Platform, Second Edition is to provide you with such a foundation by diving deep into the language of VB 2005 and the platform of .NET. Thus, rather than simply showing how a code wizard can generate all the code on your behalf, this text will first show you how to author the code yourself so you can alter the generated code to your liking.
Beyond learning all the details of the VB 2005 programming language, you will also dive into the details of building desktop applications (using Windows Forms) and websites (via ASP.NET 2.0), and how to interact with relational databases (à la ADO.NET). Furthermore, you will explore how to build distributed applications using the .NET remoting layer and XML web services. Rest assured, this text will expose you to all the major services of the .NET platform and put you in the perfect position for further exploration.
   Download

Programmming Microsoft SQL Server 2005

A hands-on reference for developers and database administrators, this book covers the basics of developing customized database applications with Microsoft SQL Server 2005. When you first start developing sites using CSS, you will come across all kinds of infuriating browser bugs and inconsistencies. It sometimes feels like there are a million and one different techniques to master, spread across a bewildering array of websites. The range of possibilities seems endless and makes for a steep and daunting learning curve.
By bringing all of the latest tips, tricks, and techniques together in one handy reference, this book demystifies the secrets of CSS and makes the journey to CSS mastery as simple and painless as possible. While most books concentrate on basic skills, this one is different, assuming that you already know the basics and why you should be using CSS in your work, and concentrating mainly on advanced techniques.
It begins with a brief recap of CSS fundamentals such as the importance of meaningful markup, how to structure and maintain your code, and how the CSS layout model really works.
This book is your indispensable guide to cutting-edge CSS development--all you need to work your way up to CSS professional.
You'll learn how to:

Plan, organize, and maintain your stylesheets more effectively
Apply the secrets of liquid, elastic, and hybrid layouts
Create flickr™-style image maps, remote rollovers, and other advanced CSS features
Lay out forms using pure CSS
Recognize common browser bugs, and how to fix them

With the basics out of the way, each subsequent chapter details a particular aspect of CSS-based design. Through a series of easy-to-follow tutorials, you will learn practical CSS techniques you can immediately start using in your daily work. Browser inconsistencies are the thorn in most CSS developers' sides, so we have dedicated two whole chapters to CSS hacks, filters, and bug fixing, as well as looking at image replacement; professional link, form, and list styling; pure CSS layouts; and much more.
All of these techniques are then put into practice in two beautifully designed case studies, written by two of the world's best CSS designers, Simon Collison and Cameron Moll.

   Download

Advanced PHP Programming Sams ebook

Over the past three years PHP has evolved from being a niche language used to add dynamic functionality to small sites to a powerful tool making strong inroads into large-scale, business-critical Web systems. The rapid maturation of PHP has created a skeptical population of users from more traditional ""enterprise"" languages who question the readiness and ability of PHP to scale, as well as a large population of PHP developers without formal computer science backgrounds who have learned through the hands-on experimentation while developing small and midsize applications in PHP. While there are many books on learning PHP and developing small applications with it, there is a serious lack of information on ""scaling"" PHP for large-scale, business-critical systems. Schlossnagle's Advanced PHP Programming fills that void, demonstrating that PHP is ready for enterprise Web applications by showing the reader how to develop PHP-based applications for maximum performance, stability, and extensibility.

   Download

Beginning PHP and MySQL 5 From Novice to Professional Second edition ebook

Beginning PHP and MySQL 5: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition offers comprehensive information about two of the most prominent open source technologies on the planet: the PHP scripting language and the MySQL database server.
Essentially three books in one, this second edition covers PHP 5, MySQL 5, and how these two popular open source technologies work together to create powerful websites. Tired of servers that wait around to respond to users' requests for movie tickets? It sounds like you need a little (or maybe a lot of) Ajax in your life. Asynchronous programming lets you turn your own websites into smooth, slick, responsive applications that make your users feel like they're back on the information superhighway, not stuck on a dial-up backroad.
But who wants to take on next-generation web programming with the last generation's instruction book? You need a learning experience that's as compelling and cutting-edge as the sites you want to design. That's where we come in. With Head Rush Ajax, in no time you'll be writing JavaScript code that fires off asynchronous requests to web servers...and having fun doing it. By the time you've taken your dynamic HTML, XML, JSON, and DOM skills up a few notches, you'll have solved tons of puzzles, figured out how well snowboards sell in Vail, and even watched a boxing match. Sound interesting? Then what are you waiting for? Pick up Head Rush Ajax and learn Ajax and asynchronous programming the right way--the way that sticks.
If you've ever read a Head First book, you know what to expect: a visually rich format designed for the way your brain works. Head Rush ramps up the intensity with an even faster look and feel. Ajax is built on existing Web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and it is used in conjunction with your favorite server-side language. Foundations of Ajax explains how to combine these technologies effectively to implement Ajax into your new or existing Web applications. Like you, we are developers who are "in the trenches," tasked with building Web-enabled applications that provide real value to our customers. As the Web continues to grow, the demand for more expressive and engaging interfaces will continue to increase.
Much of the early hype surrounding Ajax centered on its use by Internet powerhouses such as Google and Amazon. However, just because the initial forays into Ajax were pioneered by leading software development firms doesn't mean your application wouldn't also benefit from these techniques. You already know how to develop Web applications, so this book uses specific, focused examples to teach the Ajax tools and techniques you'll need to bring your applications to life. Armed with this book and your existing development expertise, you too will be able to apply Ajax techniques to your application to enrich the end user's experience.
When we first saw the potential of Ajax, we knew we had to start leveraging it for our own applications. Along the way we've learned some hard-earned knowledge that we thought needed to be shared with the rest of the development community. With this book you'll be able to easily extend your own applications with Ajax and have fun while doing it. We hope that someday we'll be reading about your great Ajax-enabled application!
   Download

Ajax Professional Programmer to Programmer ebook

Written for experienced web developers, Professional Ajax shows how to combine tried-and-true CSS, XML, and JavaScript technologies into Ajax. This provides web developers with the ability to create more sophisticated and responsive user interfaces and break free from the "click-and-wait" standard that has dominated the web since its introduction.
Professional Ajax discusses the range of request brokers (including the hidden frame technique, iframes, and XMLHttp) and explains when one should be used over another. You will also learn different Ajax techniques and patterns for executing client-server communication on your web site and in web applications. By the end of the book, you will have gained the practical knowledge necessary to implement your own Ajax solutions. In addition to a full chapter case study showing how to combine the book's Ajax techniques into an AjaxMail application, Professional Ajax uses many other examples to build hands-on Ajax experience. Some of the other examples include:

web site widgets for a news ticker, weather information, web search, and site search
preloading pages in online articles
incremental form validation
using Google Web APIs in Ajax
creating an autosuggest text box

Professional Ajax readers should be familiar with CSS, XML, JavaScript, and HTML so you can jump right in with the book and begin learning Ajax patterns, XPath and XSLT support in browsers, syndication, web services, JSON, and the Ajax Frameworks, JPSpan, DWR, and Ajax.NET.

    Download

Oracle database 10g Complete Reference Osborne series

Get a thorough understanding of Oracle Database 10g from the most comprehensive Oracle database reference on the market, published by Oracle Press. You've picked exactly the right columns, you've got them in the ideal order, you've computed statistics, you've checked for null columns--and the optimizer flatly refuses to use your index unless you hint it. What could possibly be going wrong?
If you've suffered the frustration of watching the optimizer do something completely bizarre when the best execution plan is totally obvious, or spent hours or days trying to make the optimizer do what you want it to do, then this is the book you need. You'll come to know how the optimizer "thinks," understand why it makes mistakes, and recognize the data patterns that make it go awry. With this information at your fingertips, you will save an enormous amount of time on designing and trouble-shooting your SQL.
The cost-based optimizer is simply a piece of code that contains a model of how Oracle databases work. By applying this model to the statistics about your data, the optimizer tries to efficiently convert your query into an executable plan. Unfortunately, the model can't be perfect, your statistics can't be perfect, and the resulting execution plan may be far from perfect.
In Cost-Based Oracle Fundamentals, the first book in a series of three, Jonathan Lewis--one of the foremost authorities in this field--describes the most commonly used parts of the model, what the optimizer does with your statistics, and why things go wrong. With this information, you'll be in a position to fix entire problem areas, not just single SQL statements, by adjusting the model or creating more truthful statistics.
Download

Java J2EE Job Interview Questions ebook

A Java/J2EE technical job interview guide for job seekers, promotion seekers, pro-active learners and interviewers. It's one topic, in fact, that .NET forces you to address, since Microsoft has placed security-related features at the core of the .NET Framework. Yet, because a developer's carelessness or lack of experience can still allow a program to be used in an unintended way, Programming .NET Security shows you how the various tools will help you write secure applications. The book works as both a comprehensive tutorial and reference to security issues for .NET application development, and contains numerous practical examples in both the C# and VB.NET languages. With Programming .NET Security, you will learn to apply sound security principles to your application designs, and to understand the concepts of identity, authentication and authorization and how they apply to .NET security.
Download

JUnit Recipes - Practical Methods for Programmer Testing

A cookbook for building better Java applications, this book contains 150 recipes for better code, using JUnit as both a testing and design tool. By highlighting practical matters--including setting up and running the popular BEA WebLogic Server, and benchmarking performance--the authors manage to cover the essentials of EJB-based development in a friendly and intelligent style that's ideal for any aspiring Java EJB developer.
The focus on hands-on matters begins with installation and configuration of BEA WebLogic Server, one of the more widely used platforms for running EJB applications. Most books cover EJBs more theoretically and leave deployment by the wayside. By focusing on an actual EJB product, the authors can talk about what works and what doesn't work in real applications. For examples, a single case study for a chain of pizza shops gets enhanced in stages, first with a Web front end for ordering pizzas, then with other features--including call-center support, e-mail, and XML. A section on converting an ASP version of a front end for this sample application into a JSP version is a highlight.

The latter half of this text turns into a primer on benchmarking. A benchmark (called the Grinder) measures performance, with a wide range of choices for EJBs that run on WebLogic. Different Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) and choices for implementing the applications (for example, stateful vs. stateless EJBs) are tested, and the numbers of concurrent users (up to 400) are varied. The result is a solid glimpse into the choices that give the best performance on WebLogic.

Besides covering the basics of building e-commerce applications with JSPs and EJBs, this book has a genuinely practical side. The case study is very useful, as is the plentiful performance advice. Smart, friendly, and well organized, this title strikes an excellent balance between presenting information on some of the latest Java technology and APIs, and showing just how to do it on a real EJB platform and with real code. --Richard Dragan

  Topics covered:

Introduction to Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE)

Getting started with BEA WebLogic Server: features and administration

"Webifying" existing applications

Introduction to JavaServer Pages (JSPs)

Overview of BEA dbKona and htmlKona for simpler JSP/servlet development

JSP architectures (Model 1 and Model 2)

Using Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)

Session beans, including stateless session beans

Entity beans (container-managed and bean-managed persistence)

Converting ASPs to JSPs

Sending e-mail and the Java Message Service

Security issues for Web applications, including authentication, SSL, and authorization

Introduction to Wireless Markup Language (WML) and wireless applications

Stress-testing performance for Web applications

Grinder (custom benchmark for performance testing)

Comparative benchmark scores (comparing JVMs, stateful and stateless beans, entity beans, and clustering options for up to 400 users)

Case study for chain of pizza shops with e-commerce features and call centers

JSP syntax reference

Windows Assembly Language & Systems Programming

Windows Assembly Language & Systems Programming
Provides Windows programmers with details of and deep insights into the inner system functions of Microsoft Windows Essential for Win95 and other advanced Windows programmers Ideal for software developers who are moving applications from Windows 3.x t o Windows 95 Includes disk of example programs, source code, documentation, and utilities

In this book and disk set, Barry Kauler explains the exacting details of Windows programming at the system level. He dissects the fundamentals of hardware man agreement and explores the history and advanced architectural details of Windows, the PC processor family, and systems programming in Real and Protected modes. For everything from BIOS, direct hardware access, and virtual machines to real-time events and options for managing program transitions, Kauler gives the how-to information and example code advanced software developers need for the full range of Windows systems-level programming for Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. For programmers new to Windows, this book demystifies assembly language programming for Microsoft Windows. Kauler thoroughly examines the basic concepts of Windows, and reveals systems programming tips and tricks. He explains the architectures of the microprocessor hardware, and how these features affect programming; introduces object-oriented programming from a nuts-and-bolts perspective; demonstrates how to write complete object-oriented assembly language programs in as little as nine lines; shows how to interface C and assembly code; takes readers "inside" Windows to learn the architectural details that Microsoft never publicly documented; explains how to move between Real and Protected modes; illustrates the art of thinking from 16 bits to 32 bits and back again; and provides detailed, hard-to-find reference information. Plus, Kauler's companion disk is a treasure trove of example programs, useful source code, further documentation, and powerful utilities.

VoIP Hacks : Tips & Tools for Internet Telephony (Hacks)

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is gaining a lot of attention these days, as more companies and individuals switch from standard telephone service to phone service via the Internet. The reason is simple: A single network to carry voice and data is easier to scale, maintain, and administer. As an added bonus, it's also cheaper, because VoIP is free of the endless government regulations and tariffs imposed upon phone companies.

VoIP is simply overflowing with hack potential, and VoIP Hacks is the practical guide from O'Reilly that presents these possibilities to you. It provides dozens of hands-on projects for building a VoIP network, showing you how to tweak and customize a multitude of exciting things to get the job done. Along the way, you'll also learn which standards and practices work best for your particular environment. Among the quick and clever solutions showcased in the book are those for:

gauging VoIP readiness on an enterprise network

using SIP, H.323, and other signaling specifications

providing low-layer security in a VoIP environment

employing IP hardphones, analog telephone adapters, and softPBX servers

dealing with and avoiding the most common VoIP deployment mistakes

In reality, VoIP Hacks contains only a small subset of VoIP knowledge-enough to serve as an introduction to the world of VoIP and teach you how to use it to save money, be more productive, or just impress your friends. If you love to tinker and optimize, this is the one technology, and the one book, you must investigate.

Running Linux

Earlier editions of O'Reilly's Running Linux served as central guides on installing, configuring, and using the OS. The third edition of this guide covers the kernel through version 2.2.1 and will prove especially useful to those with high technical aptitudes and a well-tested willingness to experiment with their computing environments.
The explanation of how to rebuild the kernel--a particularly daunting task for many--deserves special praise, as do the sections on configuring network links and servers. Users will find that the informative, prose-heavy style packs maximum information into this book's pages. For example, the purpose of a Linux element is described and then the reader is shown various ways of using it, complete with explicit statements of what you type and what you get in response. As is often the case with user-friendliness, though, the cosmetic ease comes about as a result of behind-the-scenes complexity. USB Design by Example explains what USB means to hardware developers, taking an approach that combines academic elucidation of the official specification with some experimental setups. Though not everything a hardware developer could wish for, John Hyde's explanations represent a valuable supplement to the notably obtuse specification documents.
This book does a good job of explaining USB input/output from both the hardware and software perspectives. You'll find both driver code and pinout diagrams here. All the software information has to do with the IBM-compatible PC platform and the Windows 98 operating system, so Macintosh developers will have to look elsewhere. Some of Hyde's explanations of how various hardware companies solved USB problems--Symbol Technologies' use of a keyboard emulator for its barcode scanners, for example--are intriguing, but more information (in the form of circuit diagrams, preferably) would be better. The clear explanation of what happens when a new device is plugged into a live USB bus is very intriguing, though. Overall, peripheral developers will find this book useful, but not encyclopedic. --David Wall

Topics covered: Universal Serial Bus (USB) architecture, packet contents, device detection, drivers and run-time software, and bridging older connection specifications (RS-232, parallel, SCSI and I2C) to USB.

Visual Basic 2005 Jumpstart

Visual Basic 2005 Jumpstart - Okay, all you VB6 developers--time's up. As of March 2005, Microsoft no longer supports this version of Visual Basic. And you can't blame them. Three years ago, they introduced the .NET Framework--an elegant, powerful platform--along with the new component-based VB.NET language. But roughly five million of you decided to stick with VB6, mostly to maintain legacy Windows and COM projects.

Now, with the upcoming release of VB 2005, Microsoft has several attractive reasons to upgrade that you'll find hard to resist, including the return of some VB6 features. And we have the perfect book to help you make the conversion: Visual Basic 2005 Jumpstart. Now, you can test-drive the beta version of VB 2005 with three hands-on projects that enable you to learn the syntax of this new language quickly.

VB 2005 not only lets you convert the bulk of your existing VB6 code, but offers several familiar features, such as compile-and-run debugging, new MyClasses that simplify use of .NET libraries and frameworks, lots of IDE support for Windows, web and mobile GUI development, and data access controls that closely resemble what you use now. The real plus is that you'll be using these features with the .NET platform, which is more secure, less complex than COM, and offers OneClick deployment.

Visual Basic 2005 Jumpstart lets you get the feel of this platform for building smart/rich Windows Forms clients, ASP.NET web applications, and web services. Author Wei-Meng Lee, a Microsoft .NET MVP, veteran O'Reilly author and frequent contributor to the O'Reilly Network, has put together three useful test-drive projects, complete with code samples, that let you develop:

* A personal library Windows application
* A Web-based shopping cart application
* A stock enquiry Web Service

Our jumpstart guide is the quick, painless way to migrate from VB6 to VB 2005, and the perfect training manual for moving your organization to the more robust, dynamic and secure world of .NET.

ADO.NET in a Nutshell

ADO.NET in a Nutshell is the most complete and concise source of ADO.NET information available. Components are the fundamental building blocks of .NET applications; they can both simplify and add flexibility to complex applications. Applied properly, component-oriented programming enable reuse, allow for long-term maintenance, application extensibility and scalability.
Component technology is nothing new, but the .NET Framework offers developers a new way to develop binary components rapidly, without the hurdles that many COM developers have had to deal with prior to .NET. While retaining all of the core concepts that define component-oriented development--language independence, separation of interface from implementation, binary compatibility, versioning, concurrency management, location transparency, security, deployment--.NET is built upon a fresh component-oriented runtime that has an easier time providing these core concepts.

Programming .NET Components offers a complete introduction to the new Microsoft .NET component model, focusing on the aspects of .NET that make it ideal for building reusable, maintainable, and robust components. Author Juval L wy, a noted authority on component-oriented programming, teaches the intricacies of .NET component programming and the related system issues to application developers, along with relevant design guidelines, tips, best practices, and known pitfalls. The book is packed with helpful original utilities aimed at simplifying the programming model and increasing the developer productivity.

The book begins with an appreciation for the "why" and fundamentals of component-oriented programming, and then continues with an introduction to .NET essentials. Following practical, expert advice on effective .NET development techniques, the book then devotes a chapter to each of the following features critical to component development:

Resource management

Versioning

Events

Asynchronous calls

Multithreading

Serialization

Remoting

Component services

Security.

Programming .NET Components offers everything you'll need to know to program components for real-life .NET applications, using Windows Forms, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, or web services. Anyone interested in developing .NET applications, especially enterprise level, will find this book an invaluable resource.

Introducing ASP.NET 2.0

Version 2.0 of Microsoft ® ASP.NET will be a major upgrade—and this guide offers an early, detailed look at exactly what’s changing in this powerful tool. Beginning with JDBC database programming, the book gives a chapter-by-chapter tour of various enterprise development APIs, including program strategies for each API. For JDBC, the book includes new Java 2 JDBC enhancements like batch and recordsets.
Next comes Java's Remote Method Invocation (RMI) classes for calling remote code. Then it's on to using Java IDL and CORBA basics. A chapter on Java servlets will get you started delivering dynamically generated HTML using Java on Web servers, including useful material on cookies and session management. After coverage of the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) comes a solid exploration of EJBs with material on both session and entity beans. Specifics here include home and remote interfaces, EJB containers, stateless vs. stateful session beans, and entity beans for accessing corporate databases.

Blogging in a Snap (Sams Teach Yourself)

The World Wide Web is a big place, and it is hard to find your way through it, much less make an impact on it.
